How to Avoid Them with Road Angel and Other Detectors
There are many methods other than Road Angel and other detectors that are used by drivers to avoid detection by speed cameras:
• Learning the location of the cameras- This is done by sighting the actual camera, operator, or his vehicle, word-of-mouth, previous experience with speed traps, websites that list the camera locations, warnings from passing motorists via hand signals or CB radios.
• Braking just before getting to a camera so the auto is below the speed limit when it passes. This is not dependable!
• Laser and radar jammers, that work by returning a scrambled signal that the speed camera cannot process.
• Passive laser and radar detectors, that tell you when your speed is being monitored.
• The obscuring, falsifying or removal of license plates. There are treatments that prevent the speed cameras from reading them while still looking normal to other drivers . Anti-flash spray gives your plate a high gloss finish that cannot be read. Infrared filters work the same way, with certain cameras.
• Apparently, speed cameras cannot detect the speed over certain high rates.
• GPS detectors
Road Angel and other mobile speed detectors can help to avoid speeding tickets. The more traditional radar detectors have been commonly used for years, warning motorists of oncoming speed traps. Most of the types of Gatso installations on UK roads can be detected, but these radar detectors do have several weaknesses.
The range on a traditional radar detector is limited by sensitivity. They often give false alarms, and can warn you too late to do anything about it. They also can’t detect sensor type or inductive loop camera installations. And most important, they cannot detect the new SPECS (DVDD) cameras.

The advantage that the GPS devices have over the traditional radar detectors is in their ability to download information from a data base into a device inside your vehicle, allowing it to recognize non radar mobile speed cameras, and therefore, warning you of the approaching speed trap.
There is a downside to GPS devices. They are unable to detect the mobile police laser guns, and other temporary speed traps.
